Buildings
Playable nowWhat you can build in a city, and what each thing is for.
You can do this now.
Buildings overview
- Cities have 15 building plots, and start with a Town Hall and a Lumber Yard on two of them.
- A new city has 9 of them open. Each Town Hall level opens 2 more, and you have all 15 at Town Hall 4.
- One plot is on the water, and is where your Port goes.
- Buildings cost wood, and stone from level 5, with each level about 35% dearer than the one before it.
- Buildings take longer to build at higher levels.
- You start with 300 wood, enough for an Art Gallery and a Coffee Shop.
- You can only build one thing at a time.
- You can have one of each building, except the Storehouse, which you can build twice.
- Your island has one of the four other resources, and an empty plot only offers you the building that works it.
- Stopping a build gives you back 50% of what you paid for that level. The rest is gone.
- Demolishing a building gives you back 50% of what you paid for every level of it, and empties the plot. The rest is gone.
- That is what you paid at the time. A discount you had then still counts, and one you have now does not change it.
- Demolishing takes time too, and your crews cannot build anything else while they are at it. The building is still there until they finish, and the resources arrive when they do.
- You cannot demolish your Town Hall or your Lumber Yard.
- The first time your empire builds each level of a building, part of the price comes back when it finishes: 60% at levels 1 to 3, 40% at level 4 and 20% at level 5. Building it again, in this city or another, pays nothing.
- When a build has 5m or less to go, you can finish it now for free.
- Some buildings make building cheaper, but none make it faster.
- Turn on Rearrange, at the right of the Building plots heading, to drag your buildings into any order on the city page. Nothing moves plot. Reset building positions puts them back.
What you can do today
- Open one of your own cities and click an empty plot.
- Pick from what fits there. The price is green when you can pay it, and red with what you are short and how long until you have it.
- Start it. Its plot detail page opens with the countdown and the controls for that build. Once 5m or less are left, press Finish now, free.
- Open the counting-down plot again to see what is coming, or to stop the build if you change your mind.
- Click a building you have already to upgrade it. The card says what the next level costs and what it gives you.
- On your city page, a building you can pay to upgrade has a green background. One you cannot pay for yet says how long until you can, unless you are short of something your city does not produce.
- Demolish it from the same page to free the plot. You are asked to confirm, and told what comes back and how long it takes before anything happens.
