Resources

Playable now

Wood, stone, glass, coffee and mana, what each is for, and the two counts your whole empire shares.

You can do this now.

Builders carrying planks and stone

The five

Wood
Building. Every island has it, and you start with enough for your first two buildings.
Stone
Building, once your buildings get taller.
Glass
Higher-level expansion buildings. Advanced research uses are proposed; basic research consumes none.
Coffee
Every coffee an hour your Coffee Shop serves keeps 2 more people in your city. It is drunk as it arrives rather than stored.
Mana
Printing cards, and paying for your attacks.

Gold

Gold is your empire's rather than a city's. Every city you hold pays into one purse.

  • Each idle citizen earns you 3 gold an hour. Nothing else earns gold yet.
  • It sits in front of your resources on every city page, and your Town Hall shows the addition behind it.
  • No Storehouse holds it, nothing can raid it, and there is no limit on how much you keep.
  • Gold pays for transports, for printing packs, and for what you buy at an Auction House.

Research points

Research points are your empire's, like gold. Every city you hold adds to one count.

  • Each researcher at your Research Institute turns out 1 point an hour.
  • Your Research Institute's level says how many you can assign: 5 for each level.
  • Researchers come out of the same population as your woodcutters, so assigning one is a citizen not digging and not earning gold.
  • Pull the Research Institute down and your researchers stop, so nobody researches until you build another.
  • Your Research Institute page is where the count is: how many points your empire holds and how many arrive an hour.
  • No Storehouse holds points, nothing can raid them, and there is no limit on how many you keep.
  • Select a technology at your Research Institute. It completes when your empire has earned its price; banked points count immediately.
  • Research consumes no glass. Luxury Production unlocks specialty buildings; other discoveries improve production.

Where they come from

Your island has wood and one other resource, and your people work those two. You have to trade with other islands for the rest.

What you can hold

  • A city without a Storehouse holds 600 of each resource. One at level 1 holds 1,000, and every level after that holds about a third more.
  • You can build two Storehouses, and their room adds up.
  • Anything you gather over that limit is lost, so a Storehouse is what lets you go away for a day.
  • The room a Storehouse buys arrives when it finishes building, not when you start it.
  • A resource that is full shows +0 an hour, because nothing more is going in.
  • 50% of what you can hold is safe from a raid. Anything above that is what an attacker takes.
  • Only you can open your city. Other players see its name and your name on the island page, and nothing else.

Putting people to work

  1. Open your Lumber Yard, or the building that works your island's other resource.
  2. Drag the slider to say how many of your citizens dig there.
  3. The two sliders share your population, so what one can have is everyone the other is not using.
  4. Your Research Institute has a slider too, bounded by its level as well as by your people.
  5. Anyone you do not place is idle and digs nothing.
  • One worker digs one an hour, on either deposit.
  • The building over the deposit adds to that: 2% a level.
  • An idle citizen earns you 3 gold an hour, so the card shows what you are earning by not digging.
  • New citizens arrive idle, so come back and place them.
  • A new city starts with everybody idle and digs nothing until you place them.
  • If your city shrinks, the people it loses come off your deposits, the same number off each, and the sliders drop with them. The ones who grow back are idle.
  • Your Town Hall shows where all of your people are and how many are idle.

Gifts

Designed, not built
  • A city can be given resources it did not work for: a coupon, a code, or something put right after an outage. It can have them taken away again the same way.
  • A gift goes into your store like anything else, so anything over what you can hold is lost.
  • People can be moved into a city or out of it the same way, and the count then grows or falls back towards what the city supports.
  • Gold and transport ships can be given or taken too. They belong to your whole empire rather than to one city, so a ship given costs you nothing and a ship taken away refunds nothing.
  • A build can be finished early. It costs you nothing extra and gives nothing back: you paid for it when you started it.
  • There is nothing to redeem yet, and nowhere to see what a city has been given.

What you can do today

Your own city page shows all five resources: what you have, what arrives every hour, and how much of it is lootable. You are founded with 300 wood and your people gather more, whether or not you are here. Your gold is in front of them, and it counts up the same way.
