Research Institute
Playable nowWhere you assign researchers to turn out research points.
You can do this now.

What it is
Open it to say how many of your citizens research. They come out of the same population as your woodcutters.
Each level lets you assign 5 more of them, and each researcher turns out 1 research point an hour.
Research points belong to your whole empire, like gold. Every city with a Research Institute adds to one count.
From level 5 it costs glass as well as wood and stone, so a city without glass has to ship some in.
Resources research improves production and unlocks your island’s specialty production building. Civics, Fortification, Trade and Curation raise limits on your cities, Town Walls, Auction Houses and cards. Movements open art styles.
Later tiers also need a Research Institute of a certain level in one of your cities: tier 1 needs level 1, tier 2 needs level 3, tier 3 needs level 6 and a Capitol Building, tier 4 needs level 10.

What it does today
You research a technology once you already hold its points. The button appears when you do, and pressing it finishes the research on the spot. Until then the card says how long its points take at your current rate, counting anything it requires first.
Glass and mana are taken from the city whose Institute you research in. Completed technologies apply to every city you own, including future colonies.
What it costs
Research Institute costs 250 wood and takes 8 minutes 20 seconds to build.
You need a Town Hall at level 4.
Every level after that costs about 35% more and takes about 40% longer than the one before, and stone is part of the price from level 5.
